Being clear on how you want to receive money can help you clarify your goals too! I believe there are elements within us that are afraid to admit how we want to make money for fear of “what will other people think” and “how am I going to pull this off”. For just a moment, don’t think about all that and just allow yourself to write it all out.
In a perfect world, how do you want money to work for you in your life? How do you want to feel when you receive it? Spend it? Save it?
Reflection, Thoughts + Feelings
I can’t be the only one that getting acquainted with money can feel a bit challenging – especially if you had an upbringing in which money either wasn’t talked about or just seemed to be non-existent. Growing up in foster care, I had the essential basic needs and so money was never a point of discussion.
So now that I am in my adult years, recognizing I want more than just living from paycheck to paycheck – or from client to client – it’s really asking me to tap into how I want to receive money and how I want it to work for me.
When I receive money, I want to feel grateful for the opportunity to support my clients and bring joy with my art, and tools to help people go the next step. This money will not only provide for our basic needs such as a roof over our head, food on the table, and clothes on our bodies. I want to feel grateful, at peace, and joyful knowing that I can do all of those things for my family.
I want it to give me opportunities for experiences such as a night out with friends, a festival for the weekend, a camping trip in the wilderness, and a road trip to places I’ve not been. I want to feel grateful, exciting and joyful when I get to do all of those things.
I want to save the just in case and feel good about the proactive actions I take to protect my future, and my children’s and grandchildren’s future. The just-in-case moments can be so devastating and I want to have a cushion of financial protection.
Receiving money used to feel so weird and out of character because at one point I believed I always had to struggle, but I know now that it doesn’t have to be that way!
