12 Benefits of a gratitude journal
|

Gratitude is an emotion and starting a gratitude journal brings forth benefits that will improve your life. Gratitude is how you feel when you’re thankful for something. Think right now about something that you’re thankful for. It can be small like the socks on your feet or it can be larger like the roof over your head, your job, your family or your life. Gratitude is also an awareness or recognition. When you express or feel gratitude, you’re acknowledging that there is good in your life, in you, in the world and all around you and this feeling can change how you feel inside. It’s easy to let the negative thoughts, words, situations, events, and actions in the world take over your heart and mind….

March is here and it is almost Spring

I am excited that it is almost spring! I don’t like cold weather. One of the things I plan on doing this year (again) is to have a garden and grow most of our own vegetables. I am not the most confident gardener and have been spending some time pondering what I want to achieve. I also plan on cleaning up our property because there are plans for a remodel in the works. My list looks something like this: Work in sections – we have about 2.37 acres Move the fence to protect the vegetables I am growing and deers don’t eat them Make a plant to what needs to go where for best use of the space Organize between the trash to the dump…

Deal with fear – Start a journal
|

One of the best ways to deal with fear is to start a journal. It’s the place and space where you can explore them, research them and evaluate how realistic they are. It can be scary to do a huge thing. For example, go on a trip across the country alone, speak in front of people, finish your first big project for public consumption and so forth. The way to deal with the fear of facing you is to develop a process that enables you to work in small steps. When you do things one day at a time and one step at a time you can overcome a lot of fear. And this is where a journal can help you develop a process. Because…

Setting Up the Bullet Journal

You’ve got your journal, pens and other accessories and it’s time for setting up your bullet journal. Giving some thought on how you want to map your bullet journal will help you stay more organized. You can always add or take away pages later through migration, but here are some tips for the beginning stages of setting up the bullet journal. Your bullet journal index A bullet journal index is similar to the content list at the beginning of a book. It tells you what you can find on page 3 to page 103. An index records where all of your pages are and what’s on them. You can organize your index to whatever style suits you best. The index will help you track what’s…

Use Your Journal for a Complete Health Reset
|

If you have been struggling with your health, and small changes you have been making aren’t working, it might be time for a complete health reset. This is when you change more than one thing at a time to develop all new healthy habits. Using a journal is a great way to set health goals and stick to them. In the workshops I teach in my community, we talk about tracking our food intake one day during the week and one weekend day. In most cases what we eat during the week tends to be different than on the weekend. I know this is true for our family as I cook most weekdays but prefer to not on the weekends. But if you are just…

Overcoming challenges during difficult times
|

Overcoming challenges during difficult times isn’t a new thing for me or my family. But just like you, I think none of us were prepared for a pandemic and the need to shelter at home. For us concert + festival season was to begin with 2-3 shows a month and a festival every other – give or take the scheduling. Those are our vacations, us connecting and hanging out with our friends and enjoying tie away from the every day with music. This staying at home is also not really new to us and feels like we’ve practiced this after my son came home for each hospital stay after one surgery or another. This certainly gives us a bit of an advantage but that doesn’t…

Happiness is a State of Mind
|

You’ve seen people stay positive and happy while going through tragic situations. It’s through my own experience I learned happiness is a state of mind. I mean if you’re like me you have wondered how people can be happy despite everything that’s happening to them and those they love? And it comes down to that you can choose to be happy. If your headspace if filled with negative thoughts all the time, you’ll be hard-pressed to be happy. If however, you choose to have positive thoughts then happiness is much easier to be found. Ask yourself, how you too can be happy, no matter what situation your life is in right now?! There are a few things I want to share with you that I…

Finding the Right Bullet Journal

While it’s true that the bullet journaling system is designed to work no matter what kind of notebook is used, finding the right bullet journal can be daunting. Getting to know the different choices available in binding, page quality, paper type lead into other considerations like formatting and plotting layouts according to the space provided or required. Most journals are made to record at least three to six months at a time, but can also be used for shorter or longer periods of time. As well, the number of collections and trackers a bullet journal has can determine how quickly the pages are filled with other entries or calendars. You will also find that many journal-making companies now have journals or notebooks specifically for bullet…

The stories you tell yourself
|

Have you ever just taken a moment and sat in silence and noticed the stories you tell yourself? Where ever you go you bring stories with you and share them with family, friends, coworkers, and perhaps to anyone you encounter that will listen. Stories you share over the phone, e-mail, in your journals and the stories that are constantly playing themselves out in your head. Stories about what’s happening to those we love, stories about those we despise, stories that inspire the spirit, and stories that instill fear. The sum and total of your life is that, from our birth until our death, you are a walking story. Journaling allows you to look at the stories you repeat in your head and that could use…
